PURPOSES OF FCCLA

  1. To provide opportunities for personal development and preparation for adult life. 

  2. To strengthen the function of the family as the basic unit of society. 

  3. To encourage democracy through cooperative action in the home and family. 

  4. To encourage individual and group involvement in helping achieve global cooperation and harmony.

  5. To institute greater understanding between youth and adults.

STOP THE VIOLENCE

You can be part of the STOP the Violence program-- Students Taking on Prevention. STOP the Violence is a peer-to-peer outreach initiative that empowers young people to recognize, report, and reduce violence in their area. With the right attitudes, skills and resources, you can make your school and neighborhood safer.

FAMILIES ACTING FOR COMMUNITY TRAFFIC SAFETY (FACTS)

A national peer education program through which students strive to save lives educating adults and youth about traffic safety and supporting enforcement of local rules and regulations regarding community traffic safety.

FACTS TOPIC AREAS

  • Think Smart: promote attitudes and provide events that keep young people from driving while under the influence of alcohol and other drugs.

  • Buckle Up: promote the benefits and safe use of seat belts, child safety seats, booster seats, and air bags.

  • Arrive Alive: promote the importance of safe driving habits, especially for less-experienced drivers.

  • Speak Up: Promote the empowerment of teens to speak up for their safety.

  • Bridge the Gap: Promote conversation and training for parents of teens as they work together to enhance traffic safety.

JAPANESE EXCHANGE PROGRAM

Extension of the Families First National Program. The Japanese Exchange scholarship opportunity for fourteen FCCLA members to travel to japan for four to six weeks as an exchange student. Funded by the Kikkoman Corporation. To apply for the Japanese Exchange Scholarship the applicants birthday must fall between April 2nd, 1995 and April 2, 1998

FINANCIAL FITNESS

A national peer education program involving youth teaching one another how to make, save, and spend money wisely.

Financial Fitness Units:

  • Banking Basics-Concuer bank accounts, credit and investments

  • Cash Control-Track and plan personal spending

  • Making Money-Sharpen on-the-job financial fitness

  • Financing Your Future-Apply financial skill to real life

STUDENT BODY

A national peer education program that helps young people learn to eat right, be fit, and make healthy choices.

Student Body Focus Areas:

  • Eat Right: Explore nutrition, eating disorders, healthy snacks, supplements, vegetarianism and eating habits.

  • Be Fit: Take action related to lifelong excercise habits

  • Making healthy choices: Choose a healthy lifestyle by avoiding drugs, alcohol and tobacco; manage stress in a constructive manner, build self-esteem and practice good character.

THE PLANNING PROCESS

The FCCLA Planning Process is a decision-making tool that supports the organization's overall philosophy about youth-centered leadership and personal growth. It can be used to determine group action in a chapter or class or to plan individual projects.

THE 7-UP CHALLENGE

The 7-up Challenge is a fun and exciting challenge developed to increase membership in all Minnesota chapters. You can achieve the seven up challenge in one of two ways! 7-up challenge deadline is March 1st 20131. Increase your chapter members by seven more members from the previous years chapters 2. Have 33.3% or more of your student body involved in FCCLA-advisors must notify the state office prior to March 15th, 2013

What's in it for your chapter?
Invitation to the 7-up Highlighter party at the 2013 State conference Chapters that retain members. Option to purchase tickets for the 7-up Highlighter Party at State Conference for $5.00 per member. Retaining chapters must register by March 15th, 2013. 

FCCLA COLORS

The colors of MN FCCLA are red, white, and blue. Red suggests strength, white is the symbol of sincerity and blue suggests connectedness with family, community and the world..
